Scripting languages such as Perl, Tcl and Python have gained much popularity among the programmers. The salient reasons for this popularity are the ease, power and simplicity of the scripting languages. Scripting languages are designed as "System Integration" or "Gluing" languages that give more rapid application development than system programming language like C or C++. This paper shows how scripting languages like Python can be used to speed up biometrics application development. We converted a compiled biometrics library written in C into an interpreted Python module (pyfinger) in order to speed up application development or research in biometrics. We also compared performance between the traditional biometrics enabled application development and our approach of software development where we exploited the advantages of both scripting languages and compiled languages.
