The relationships between a few significant mechanical properties of high impact polystyrenes and their selected molecular-morphological characteristics were studied. A series of rubber toughened polystyrenes prepared by mass-suspension polymerization with constant amount of polybutadiene was evaluated and tested by standard methods. The technique of nonlinear multiple regression was applied to quantify the relationships between molecular-morphological characteristics and fracture and tensile properties. It was found that in some cases the grafting degree measured by standard method does not correspond to the theoretical pre-requisites in its relation to mechanical properties. The influences of other main parameters, particularly particle volume fraction, swelling index and molar mass on the tensile and impact properties are in accordance with findings published in literature. The quantified effects of particular parameters are discussed.
