摘要

The World Wide Web (WWW) has become an infinite distributed information space, which provides users' access to a massive and valuable information resources. But because of openness, dynamics and heterogeneity of the Internet, that users quickly obtain digital text which is needed on WWW is getting more and more difficult. This article describes the use of metadata standards as a viable means for resources sharing among various different digitized journals. Our study concentrates on three aspects: first, what is metadata? Are there any representative definitions? Second, since the 1990s, the emergence and development of metadata standard have been paid close attention to, and many studies and projects have been made, specially the Dublin Core (DC) metadata, which is used widely in world. Finally, we recommend the metadata standard of the Chinese digitized journals and an example of the design with the DC 1.0 metadata and HTML4.0 syntax.
