The bidirectional dc-dc converters are inefficient due to switching loss, conduction loss and passive component loss. The ripple reduction is possible in the load current by interleaving of inductor currents in multiphase bidirectional dc-dc converter. The bidirectional dc-dc converter is operated in discontinuous conduction mode in order to minimize the size of passive inductor. The snubber capacitance is designed to reduce the turn-off loss which occurs due to discontinuous mode of operation and hence it improves the efficiency. The design procedure is presented and an algorithm is devised to optimize the size of inductor and capacitor in order to achieve high efficiency operation from low to full load operating conditions. The performance of this converter is presented with single legged and three legged converter in simulation. The prototype of proposed converter is designed and its implementation is given with operational results. The efficiency curves are also plotted to validate the results.
