SLOW RELEASING WOODCHIP FERTILIZER EFFECT ON CHINESE CABBAGE FIELD

Three species were used for making slow releasing woodchip fertilizer. Among the species P. tomentiglandulosa retained the highest amount of N (29.04%), P_2O_5 (26.03%) and K_2O (16.93%). On the other hand, woodchip fertilizer from P. koraiensis retained the lowest amount of N (26.22%), P_2O_5 (21.80%) and K_2O (14.49%). A field experiment was done in 50m2 experimental plots in Kangwon Agricultural Research and Extension Services, Chunchon from August to November, 1999. General fertilizer along with compost and slow releasing woodchip fertilizer without compost effect on cabbage production was observed and it was found that cabbage production parameters were increased like top height, head weight, head height, head width, number of outer and inner leaf, leaf width and length of head in the field where L. kaempferi woodchip fertilizer was added as a basal dose. Result showed that woodchip fertilizer made form P. koraiensis had fast releasing properties compared with other woodchip fertilizer. Without adding any compost in woodchip fertilization filed, it showed an excellent result than general chemical fertilizers. Though the amount of woodchip fertilizer was bulky in amount compared with chemical fertilizer, it increased the cabbage production for its excellent slow releasing properties.
