With the force of drastic global competition today, companies and manufacturers have to promote their development processes to provide customers with products which are more sensitive to their needs. The costs and time to develop new products will potentially influence the companies' strategy in market demands. Importing the ability to reduce the development cycle and refine the infrastructure of product design and manufacturing will approach the goals. The technologies in modern engineering and manufacturing have been changed drastically and are still developing. The engineers and designers have been challenged with increasing demands from customers who wish their products had the rich features but keeping low costs. Reducing cost is an essential and effective way for wealth generation and companies' survival in the scale of economies. Importing the ability to find all existing similar components for a given desired component is the key to cost reduction. A new version of a solution-making search agent system could be developed and implemented to achieve the aims by automatically retrieving existing parts that have similar shape and features to the given part. The proposed system aims to provide an on-line intelligent support for determining the closest matching parts and the related manufacturing data will be analyzed and indexed in a backup database. This paper investigates the feasibility and makes a plan to support developing new solution-making system which could be deployed to achieve agile design and manufacturing purposes.
