The authors firstly summarize the present situation of SO_2 emissions and acid deposition pollution in China, and present the significance of coal-fired power plant flue gas desulfurization(FGD) for urgent air pollution control. Then, a systematic review of technical status is carried out for such FGD processes tested at pilot-scale, demonstrated or imported in China as limestone/gypsum process, lime spray-drying, phosphate ammoniate compound fertilizer process, simplified wet system, furnace calcium injection/post-furnace humidification process and simplified combined dust/SO_2 removal process. Also, with the unified economic parameter setting, an economic evaluation is conducted for these FGD processes.
