To improve safety of person and device in production, reduce non-working hours and improve production efficiency, the coaler anchorage device to anchor coalers and restrict coalers' random movement along rails is developed for coal unstowing production line of some coaling port in China. The device is a kind of manipulator consisting of four-bar mechanism (parallelogram mechanism), cylinders, sensors and PLC control system to realize automatic connection or detachment, orientation and position lock with hooking device of the coaler. Every part of the device is not higher than base surface of rails, which accords with safety standards of rail traffic. Reliability design is adopted during the design of mechanical part, hydraulic system and PLC (programmable logical controller) control system. The functions of the coaler anchorage device controlled by PLC and principle of the PLC control program are expounded in the article. PLC with high reliability and superior performance is adopted as control computer in the system. Some critical measures are taken in the procedure to ensure system reliability, such as stroke-time joint control and interlock control between local and remote operation, operating buttons. To stroke-time joint control, there two conditions of every step to stop motion, namely, position switches being touched and due delay time. The field operation of the device is well, and the functions designed are realized. The device and corresponding technology can be popularized to be used in such applications as fixation and anchorage of vehicles which moves along railway or roadway.
