The features of the embedded Advanced RISC Machines (ARM) processor (ARM7TDMI S3C4510B) and uClinux OS are first described. Samsung's S3C4510B 32-bit RISC microcontroller is a cost-effective, high-performance microcontroller solution for Ethernet-based systems. Linux is excellent free software. Because its opened source code, powerful function, well network support, it is became the most potential operation system in recent years. Linux is tailored and optimized according to the features of embedded system and requirements of applications. The controller board contained analog output & digital input & LED & keyboard & serial port and Ethernet. The analog output is designed by DAC712 which is 16-bit digital-to-analog converter with 16-bit bus interface. The digital input is designed by AD1674 which is a complete, multipurpose, 12-bit analog-to-digital converter. The controller of pneumatic cylinder based on ARM can replace the computer and form the distributed system by the Ethernet. We can carry on the communication through Ethernet; use the serial port to show at the same time. We can drive different pneumatic system through designing the ancillary equipment. Using the hub we can connect several controllers that could work together to the system which like 6-DOF Pneumatic Platform. The arithmetic is compiled by C programming language. The controller can not merely replace the computer to control by introducing the embedded controller in the pneumatic system, can improve systematic efficiency and the precision controlled. Because of the miniaturization, intensification of the embedded system, it has offered reference for the pneumatic system to develop the controller specially. Till at present, the application of ARM microprocessor and technology has nearly already got deeply to each field. The complete process is discussed, including hardware architecture, developing environment. Such advantages as the pneumatic control system is cheap, pollution-free and easy to operate make it get the extensive attention in a lot of industrial fields. Applying the embedded control system to the pneumatic system, we can finish the job of a computer through a small chip, also design very convenient algorithms at the same time.
