In the framework of the geostatistical inverse problem, a methodology for the estimation of transport parameters is presented, using concentration data and prior information on the parameters to be estimated. Calibration is performed using the theory of maximum likelihood. Equations of steady state flow and transient transport are solved using a finite element discretization in space and a weighted finite difference scheme in time.
