A natural gradient bromide and pesticide injection experiment has been carried out in a heterogeneous riparian wetland in Denmark to study the transport and fate of two pesticides (Iso-proturon and Mecoprop) within the wetland area. Characteritics of the flow and non-reactive transport processes are presented here based on tracer and model results. Results on the fate of the pesticides are found elsewhere in this issue (Nilsson, B., Dahl, M., Juhler, R.K., Hoffmann, C.C. & Engesgaard, P. Fate of two pesticides in a freshwater wetland: Comparison of field injection and laboratory results).
