The filtered-backprojection (FBP) algorithm is used in almost all applications of parallel projections tomogrpahy except in the field of reconstruction fromn incomplete projection data, which is of a great interest in engineering. This paper shows that it is feasible to use FBP in reconstruction from limited views when the targets. are smooth and error tolerable. The study reveals two advantages of using FBP for smooth targets besides its speediness and accuracy: one is the maximum value of the target distribution can be obtained fast from a few projections; the other is that the FBP keeps practical accuracy when there are more than about 10 projections available, and the FBP becomes useless only when there are a few projhections available. In such case, integrating an angular interpolation into FBP can improve the accuracy significantly, for which there is a turning point around 14 projections. The results inspirits wider use of FBP in engineering.
