Changing techno-economic scenario because of liberalization policy of Indian government is putting pressure on Indian industries to be competitive for their survival and growth. In an age of globalization, rising customer demands and global competition are continuously forcing engineering and consumer product manufacturing industries, to find ways to reduce product development time which may result in increasing market share and strengthening customer base. Quality, cost, timeliness and productivity have become the watchwords of Indian industries. The organizations are required to manufacture the products with right quality & quantity at predetermined time and pre-established cost to achieve maximum effectiveness. It is must on the part of the organizations to enhance productivity and to reduce cost, eliminate waste and non value-added operations, to get competitive edge. Rapid Prototyping and Design for Manufacture (DFM) are the techniques, which will useful to achieve above objectives. This paper discusses the literature on DFM, Concurrent Engineering and Rapid Prototyping. Also the implementation of above techniques in Jewelry industries as a part of the Case Study.
