摘要

Proper IT strategy integrated with a supply chain strategy can turn around a company's fortunes. In fact, selecting an appropriate IT strategy that is to be combined with the supply chain strategy is very important. A proper IT strategy facilitates accurate demand forecasting by providing recent data and thus enables improvement of service levels and inventory parameters. The use of IT is to improve forecasting and reduced lead time for manufacture, frequency of dispatch, dispatch lead time all of which improves service levels and reduce inventory. The present paper shares the experience of Hindustan lever limited here the concept of IT strategy is applied in the supply chain management in order to achieve the objectives of the organization. It also highlights the contribution of IT in helping to restructure the entire distribution setup to achieve higher services and lower inventory with a low and effective supply chain cost. This can be only possible if one can manage the supply side, demand side, distribution and the logistics associated with then in an efficient way. This requires a good establishment of IT infrastructure, which is reliable there by which information moves through the system very fast. IT provides a proper and effective medium in the effective implementation of supply chain management.
