"Structural mechanics" is not only an important course for university students who major in civil engineering, but also a precondition to be thoroughly conversant with other subsequent courses, such as "steel structures" and "steel reinforced concrete structures". With the rapid development of "computational structural mechanics", it becomes more and more important how to teach the increasingly voluminous "structural mechanics" in originally planned or even reduced teaching hours. It is in this regard that a reform scheme is presented in this paper for the teaching of "structural mechanics". Firstly, the traditional "structural mechanics" should be condensed and rescheduled to adapt to the development of modern society. Secondly, the existing teaching method should be reformed to inspire students' curiosity, imagination and creativity. Thirdly, the traditional teaching means should be renovated by introducing modern computer techniques. Also included in this paper are several illustrative examples to demonstrate the feasibility and practice of the teaching reform.
