Continuous water jet critical shot peening pressure was studied through two ways of academic analysis and experimental research. Taking the nozzle whose outlet is taper constringency with column section as an example and taking jet as the total flow which is made up of countless column element flow and then making impact that jet effects on the target surface as turbulent flow jet dynamic load, concerning about target surface's elastic deformation, according to the velocity of jet, impact radius effected on target surface by jet and the dynamic water pressure effected on target surface by element flow in jet, a dynamic water pressure distributing model effected on target surface by continuous water jet shot peening is established. Taking target body as a homogeneous isotropic elastic half-space body, according to the resolution of Boussinwsq, the analysis shows stress distributing effected on target symmetry axis by load. According to the Mises yield qualification, the formula of critical shot peening pressure is presented. To validate the correctness of academic analysis, taking 45 steel as target material to do material unilateralism tension test with MTS 810 Material Test System, getting the elastic modulus and conditional yield stress of 45 steel ,and calculating the critical shot peening pressure on the condition of given shot peening. Do critical shot peening pressure experiment to 45 steel with continuous water jet and also residual stress measurement of specimen surface layer was done with X-ray stress instrument. The result indicates that the academic count value of critical shot peening pressure and experiment data inosculate basically.
