Machining accuracy can be affected by many factors in turning process. But in the process of slender bars turning, undoubtedly, cutting force is a main factor of causing workpiece diameter error. in this paper, on the basis of analyzing the machine-workpiece-tool system, according to the three usual methods of mounting workpieces on a turning machine, the elastic deflections of the workpiece due to the cutting force and the tailstock shift are considered and a model of diameter error in machining points is established, further a predicted system for diameter errors is developed. In the system, a new method, called 'discrete nodes output', is proposed and applied to expressing the workpiece diameter at given points. Finally, experiments validate the accuracy of the system.
