Planetary gear transmissions are used widely in navigation, marine, automobiles and other applications because of their distinguishing advantages, including high-speed reduction, compactness, greater load sharing, automobiles and higher torque to weight ratio. In some important transmission applications, the noise and vibration is a key concern in the design of planetary gear transmissions. From the point of view of the relations between vibration and force, the complex dynamic forces at the sun-planet and ring-planet meshes are the source of the vibration of planetary gear transmissions. It is known that the noise and the vibration have close relation. Planet phasing shows the relation between the basic parameters and the vibration of the planetary gears. The systematic experimental work using single stage 2K-H spur PGT was carried out to study the planet phasing theory. The influence of the mesh phasing on the noise and vibration of the planetary gear transmissions is obvious and the result of the theoretical analysis of the planet phasing is consistent with the experiment results. The effectiveness of the vibration and the noise reduction method based on the planet phasing is also verified.
