We collect theoretical evidence related to a precision numerical study of free energy differences on small boxes with periodic boundary conditions and at large correlation length values in the D = 2 O(3) non-linear sigma model. The mass-gap as determined by the analysis agrees with the analytical result of the thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz.
