Physical modeling is often used to study ice force on structure. A series of model tests were performed to study the ice forces on conical structures for a harbor design in Bohai. The aim of the conical structures is to break ice and reduce the ice forces on the harbor with inclined piles. For knowing the ice forces on the conical structures, a series of the conical structures with the angles of 45°, 50°, 55°, 60°and 65° were tested by using the scale of 1:40, and the DUT-1 synthetic model ice. The results from tests were compared with the calculations by Croasdale and Ralston empirical formulas. The differences between tested and calculated were discussed.
