In the freeze-up period, a part of pollutant may be stay in the ice when the polluted water flows below the ice, which might cause the secondary water pollution in the next spring. This paper presents a mathematical model to analyze and calculate the amount of the pollutant residue in the ice. The method is described as follows: (1) to set up the ice growth model based on condition of the local weather and hydrology and principle of the river-ice growth, (2) to make certain the position and thickness of the polluted ice, and (3) to calculate the residue concentration in the ice. The result illustrates that, the model can be used to simulate the pollutant distribution in the ice and calculate the residue concentration brought by polluted water.
