摘要

The design issues and more in general the processes that drive the evolution of fire emergencies in the underground portion of metro systems are complex and interdependent. Key factors that contribute to the mitigation of this risk, if properly addressed, include the fire load of the vehicle, the design of the evacuation/access routes for passengers/rescue team, the design of the ventilation system and of other systems involved during the emergency (fire/smoke detection, fire suppression/fighting, communications, etc.) as well as the definition of clear and effective emergency procedures to be followed by passengers and metro staff. The present paper has a twofold purpose: 1. to propose a methodological approach aimed to achieve a safety validation of the metrorail system as far as underground fire risk is concerned; 2. to present a deep underground station case study of a Metro system under construction.
