Cement industry was a significant contributor to carbon dioxide emissions in China, total CO_2 emissions from this industry was 1788.78 million metric tons carbon equivalent in the past 45 years (1969-2003). In order to reveal the anthropogenic driving forces on CO_2 emissions in cement manufacturing, a stochastic regression model (STIRPAT) was used here. The results showed that population pressure was a key factor to CO_2 emissions and it was still necessary to control population for Chinese government. Meanwhile, the regression model also implied that the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) was suitable for evaluate carbon dioxide emissions from cement manufacturing.
