A major factor in the development of a useful, interactive tool for computer based questioning and problem solving is the ease of development of graphics. The problem is intensified by the desire to have a questioning system that can reuse questions by parameterizing them. This allows a single question type to be developed, and then generate many questions by changing the parameters to the question. However, it is difficult to parameterize figures which have been captured in general formats (bitmap, gif, jpeg, etc.). In an electrical and computer engineering curriculum, the primary use of graphics is circuit diagrams. Focusing on this class of figures allows the use of a text language to describe the circuits, in particular PSPICE, which is easier to modify dynamically. The language is then extended to include formatting information to allow the developer to specify how the figure should be drawn. This paper presents the development of a PSPICE based language for specifying circuits and a Java tool for displaying the circuits in web pages containing interactive question information.
