Meniscus shape and mechanism of steps formation were examined in case of the sapphire basal plane close to the sapphire ribbon side surface (basal facet ribbon). These studies were made from the solution of Herring equation at the triphase line. The range of possible crystal-melt contact angle values for a sapphire ribbon with a basal facet was quantitatively estimated.
