Through cracks in symmetric composite laminates have been studied extensively for two-dimensional problems. However, due to the mathematical difficulties, no analytical solution has been found for the corresponding plate bending problems. Through our recent development of Stroh-like formalism for plate bending theory of anisotropic plates, most of the relations for bending problems can be organized into the forms for two-dimensional problems. Therefore, almost all the techniques developed for the two-dimensional problems can now be applied to the plate bending problems of composite laminates. Due to this analogy, it becomes easier to obtain the analytical solutions for through cracks in symmetric composite laminates subjected to out of plane bending moments. To verify the correctness and to show the generality of the analytical solutions, several examples are presented and discussed.
