Power plant is a kind of critical infrastructure. The single span concrete frame-bent structure-which is called "single frame structure", is often used in main building because of the equipment layout optimized design. Kobe earthquake, Chi-Chi earthquake and Wenchuan earthquake show that the single span frames are easily damaged. So the "Code for seismic design of buildings" GB50011 and the electric industry codes make strict rules for the use of single frame structure. In order to distinguish the similarities and differences between the "single frame structure" in main power plant and conventional single-frame structure, a dynamic elastic-plastic time-history analysis is carried out based on the characteristics of the main building structure in power plant. The scope of application is given for this kind of structure and the design guide is specifically complied for engineering design.
