摘要

Cuba is a 110,860 km~2 archipelago integrated by two main islands called Cuba with 104, 945 km~2 of surface and the Island of Youth who has 2,200 km~2 and 3745 adjacent keys. The Cuban archipelago is located between 19°49′36″ and 23° 17′ 07″ north latitude and 20°12′36″ and 21°51′40″ east longitude, just in the middle of the American continent. Due to the privilege of its geographical position, the island has been, since the discovery of the new world, a covetousness motive for several economic and military potencies. It has a sub-tropical climate with average temperature of 25℃ and a relative humidity of 80% . According to preliminary data of the National Population Census, who took place in 2002, Cuba has 11.2 millions (MM) peoples and has considered one of the most urbanized countries of the world with near of 76% of its population resident in urban settlements. Its political and administrative structure is integrated by 14 provinces and 169 municipalities. The capital of the country is the city-province of Havana with nearly 2.2mm peoples. The second important city is Santiago de Cuba, who is the capital of the province of the same name with nearly 440,000 inhabitants located 940 km east of the Havana city.
