A conceptual understanding of organization structure (OS) and the types of communications network (CN) that support types of knowledge such as explicit and tacit within the sub-units of an organization are discussed here. It is argued here that CN structure of an organization provides a basis for understanding the patterns of informal and formal communication between the members of different sub-units of an organization, which leads to facilitating effective knowledge sharing (KS). KS is also seen as rooted in individual's actions and experience. Therefore, understanding how individual's act and their relationships with other actors within the social relation are vital for effective KS in organizations. Elementary Theory of Social Structure or ET is applied here as it provides us with a basis for understanding mechanics of exchange, conflict, coercive relations and hybrid combinations of three. The following questions guide this study--Are communication patterns or actors position in the social systems an indicator for facilitating effective KS in organizations? Is effective KS dependent on the organizational structure or communication networks? How can ET help in understanding the design complexity of KS in organizations?
