IS BEIJING READY FOR 2008?

On 13 July 2001, the International Olympic Committee awarded the Games of 2008 to Beijing in Toronto. Since then, China has been working on this historic event with remarkable enthusiasm. The infrastructure constructions are far advance in schedule. Meanwhile Chinese people, especially Beijing citizens are embracing the Games with pride as well. As most of them believe in that to host the Olympic Games 2008 will bring global attention to Beijing, China; attract more foreign investments; local community could enjoy a better infrastructure; enhance the bloom of local tourism industry and so on. This paper will argue that is it true that the Olympic Game 2008 will benefit Beijing or China as much as it is expected, considering all the negative issues happened worldwide after the winning of the bid, such as September 11 Bombings, SARS, avian flu and natural disasters? Also is Beijing local community aware of the possible negative impacts brought by the Games, for example, loose of traditional culture and value, increase of living expenses, or are they fully understand what are they going to confront as the Games are approaching? The purpose of this paper is to analyze the Beijing Olympic from a different point of view which is beyond the infrastructure constructions; focuses on the issues may have been neglected: personal training, event management, exploitation of pre-& post tourism to the sightseeing spots in Beijing and around areas, hospitableness of Beijing. This paper may provide some practical suggestions to local government and relevant organizations hosting the Games.
