摘要

Madhya Pradesh is a water-rich state when seen in relation to the overall population and its per capita amount of annual water available in the amount of some 3000 m~3. The state has embarked on a number of multipurpose dams for the development of water resources. The degree of development however is seen to be very low because of the fact that hardly 20 percent of the total water resource is currently stored through 752 dams and the rest flows off. Apparently, there is considerable scope to increase the reservoir storage capacity by designing and constructing new dams wherever possible. This paper provides information on hydrometeorological studies of rainfall of Madhya Pradesh for the benefit of design engineers and hydrologists engaged in the development of water resources of the state.
