The Muskingum method is a well-known flood routing method studied and used extensively by engineers and hydrologists. Due to this reason, this method is described in detail in almost all the textbooks of hydrology. But description of this method is riddled with many anomalies; the removal of which would lead to better understanding of the method and, subsequent, improved applications to field problems. These anomalies are mainly concerned with the lower limit of the weighting parameter, θ used in the storage equation; limits on the routing time interval in order to avoid negative initial outflow solution and for condition leading to imaginary pure translation of the flood wave. This paper attempts to remove these anomalies.
