This paper compares the performance of the existing version of the Soil Conservation Service Curve Number (SCS-CN) method (SCS, 1956) with the modified one (Mishra and Singh, 1999a) using a large data base comprised of rainfall-runoff events from 265 small to large watersheds in the United States. Tests of comparison reveal that the modified version, which is also a one-parameter model with parameters a= 0.5 and λ= 0, performs significantly better than the existing one.
