This study attempts to look at the effect(s) of urbanization on the runoff co-efficient, which is an associated problem due to replacement of the natural drainage system by man-made landscape with introduction of impervious surfaces such as houses, roads and pavements. A multi-cell Water Balance technique was used to determine runoff coefficients for the catchment between 1978 and 2000 on the Notwane Catchment in Botswana, which covers the country's major population cluster. From the analysis, average runoff co-efficient over the past two decades (1981-1990) and (1991-2000) was found to change by 6% from 0.48 to 0.51communserate with the 6% increase on the percentage of urbanisation. Simulation studies, taking into account the present scenario of climate change and the changes in the land use due to urbanisation, showed that the runoff coefficient might reach a value of 0.51 at the end of 2010, calling for necessary watershed management activities.
