The Derby Transfer Pumping Station is a terminal sewage pumping station, receiving flow from most of the City and transferring it direct to the treatment processes on site. The new station, with 14 pumps in two wet wells has a total capacity of 6m~3/s and a power requirement of some 1,300kW. Replacing the old Station as a matter of urgency, it was commissioned within twelve months of starting the option study. The fast-track approach did not compromise the standards of design, construction and installation. This paper presents the challenges faced by the Client, Designer and Contractor. It sets out their approach and how practical design and site problems were solved to achieve a first-class installation in a very short period of time.
