A demonstration of phytoremediation methods to remediate explosives-contaminated groundwater was conducted at the milan Army Ammunition Plant, Milan, Tennessee. A gravel-based subsurface wetland and a lagoon-based surface flow wetland were operated during the demonstration. It is concluded that gravel-based wetlands could be used to remediate explosives such as TNT and RDX, where the use of a lagoon system is not recommended.
