摘要

Some decades ago brook valleys were the most common and the most ecologically valuable wetlands in the Pleistocene cover sand areas of the Netherlands. One relatively valuable, but damaged brook valley wetland system, called the brook valley of the Merkske, still exists ont eh border of Belgium and the Netherlands. An investigation was conducted into the possibilities of restoring the total water system in the catchment area of the Merkske, which was to be beneficial to both the agriculture and the natural environment in the area. During the investigation a monitoring net was installed, weir experiments were conducted and a number of groundwater models were creasted.
