摘要

The output from traditional, infinite time based, reliability calculations in presenting statistical risks of low probability events with severe consequences has significant limitations within time frames of realistic interest. Application of the Poisson distribution to basic failure data with a graphical presentation of the output is shown to aid the communication of issues to executives, who may not have a technical understanding of statistics.
