Over the last ten years geological and mining software products have evolved greatly. Software companies developing such products have focussed almost exclusively on the development of technical aspects of the applications, addressing geological, ore reserve estiamtion and mine planning problems. These specialist applications, and the many other new technologies that are being developed by a myriad of niche developers, are an essential part of today's hi-tech mining operations. Technology is also being used in many other areas to improve the mining process and there is to doubt that tremendous advances are being made in all these fields.
