摘要

A twenty-seven years old spinal cord injured male subject was involved in a motor vehicle accident resulted in T12 complete paraplegia and left above knee amputation. After a comprehensive evaluation, the following complications were observed; fixed flexion deformity (FFD) of left hip secondary to fractured neck of femur with avascular necrosis, bilateral ischial pressure sores and recurrent urinary tract infection. The patient was unable to sit and stand properly due to the FFD. Hence a surgical correction was done to overcome this problem. The other complications have also been treated. An Advanced Reciprocating Gait Orthosis (ARGO) was used to help the patient for upright mobility. The ARGO was modified to incorporate Ischial weight bearing socket on the left side. After physical therapy and gait training, the patient was able to stand and walk with the help of rollator. The patient was psychologically motivated to use the ARGO for community ambulation as well. In this specific case, a new idea in rehabilitation technology was incorporated in order to obtain a bipedal ambulation for a patient with complicated clinical problems.
