The contribution presents and discusses Rapid Tooling Technologies for sand casting: Laminated Object Manufacturing (LOM) to generate patterns and cores like wood, Selected Laser Sintering (SLS) of croning sand and the Direct Forming of moulds of sand through milling of sand blocks with robots or portal milling machines. Data for these processes are generated from CAD model data. Castings' that are produced in small batches, including spare parts and prototypes are producible without the need of time consuming and costly conventional pattern making processes. Applications in foundries are presented and the specific advantages of the different method respecting cost, accuracy and surface quality, as well as time to market of cast products will be evaluated. It is possible to mix the different technologies with respect to the specific requirements of the customers for quality and delivery time.
