The startup process of a continuous flow stirred-tank reactor for fermentation biology hydrogen production and the acclimatization of ethanol-type fermentation microbe community dominated were investigated. The results showed that it was feasible to start biology hydrogen producing fermentation process with anaerobic activated sludge as the inoculants. Under the conditions of the inoculants 6.5gVSS/L, COD 3000~5000mg/L, HRT 8~11h and pH 4.0~4.6, the dominant ethanol-type fermentation microbe community could be established around 43 days and the hydrogen content was 40%~50% in the biogas.
