Materials and processes have made the achievable accuracy of industrial temperature measurement much higher than a generation ago. But the fundamental systemic errors are still present and must be managed. Calibration and drift have both active correction and material selection solutions. Thermal property failure modes require more creative detection and correction means. An understanding of these error sources, their causes, and solutions are key to making low uncertainty contact industrial thermometry.
