Fiber fineness and its variation are very important for yarn uniformity and spinning efficiency. This paper examines the changes in fiber fineness during chemical and mechanical processing of hemp fibers. The effects of the processing parameters on the fiber fineness were analyzed. The fineness and its distribution of hemp fibers were measured on the Optical Fiber Diameter Analyzer (OFDA), and the fiber cross-sectional morphology was observed with the optical microscope. The improvement in fiber fineness variation through blending degummed hemp with cotton was also examined with different blend ratios.
