摘要

In this paper, we analyzed statistics of the seafarers' contribution to Korean economy and maritime industry to discuss pros and cons of free tuition focusing on Korean MET. And also Korean maritime institutes and government support for the MET students was analyzed in details. Through such analysis, pros and cons of free tuition for MET in Korea is summarized below. Positive sides Free tuition for MET has contributed to the bringing up of many talented seafarers. It contributes to the development and growth of maritime industry and national economy. Negative sides Free tuition could make the MET students fall in lazy habit in studying and training. It can impose a burden on the government in budget. The situation of demand and supply of Korean seafarers could become unfavorable. In this paper, we discussed pros and cons of free tuition for MET using the limited data of Korea. But in future, it should to be examined through the analysis of data of various countries.
