Occurrence of reactor pressure vessel failures by interaction with corium and subsequent MCCI with the dry well concrete floor have been suspected during the Fukushima events for the three damaged reactors. Using the severe accident simulation tool ASTEC, IRSN performed a diagnosis evaluation of MCCI to forecast the accident evolution and consequences. One year and a half after the Fukushima events, preliminary evaluations made by IRSN during the crisis are re-analyzed and completed; lack of data and fundamental knowledge to analyze further the accident are identified.
