摘要

A new line of environmentally-friendly binders has been developed by Rohm and Haas Co. for the Textiles and Nonwovens markets (flocking, wipes, interlining, filtration, insulation, etc.). These binders are APE-free (alkylphenol ethoxylate free) and low or ultra-low formaldehyde. In this paper, we will define low and ultra-low formaldehyde and the reasons why formaldehyde is an issue in different parts of the world. Several methods of testing formaldehyde will be described including free formaldehyde, modeling emitted formaldehyde and formaldehyde remaining in finished products. We will conclude by presenting examples of our new environmentally-friendly binders along with the formaldehyde data and their application properties compared with conventional binders.
