A novel system for imparting additive functionality to the surface of cotton and other natural fiber, nonwoven and textile fabrics is disclosed. These engineered polymer compositions are especially suited to uniformly dispersing and binding particulate additives to a substrate, durably anchoring them in a thin flexible coating, to give optimal placement and maximum performance. Applications include antimicrobials, biocides, nanoparticles, chemical deactivators such as activated carbon, toxic absorbers, "smart" fabric systems and components, flame retardants, antistats, abrasives, markers, counterfeit tracers, UV screens, fluorescents, phosphorescents, and other fine pigments. These compositions have a sharp flow profile with improved flow at lower temperature for bonding, yet are not tacky or prone to block at normal extremes of temperature exposure during transportation and warehousing. They can be used to deliver discontinuous deposits (small islands) or a more continuous, but breathable network that coats and bridges the surface layer of fibers in a construction.
