The manufacturing and applications of nanophase Mn(VII) oxides (NM7O) incorporated garments are discussed. Presently, nonwoven fabrics are one of the most significant developments in the textile industry. Collaborative studies are being conducted to take advantage of nanotechnology to fabricate functional nonwovens for military, industrial, medical and commercial applications. We have demonstrated that by using conventional processes and equipments, one can tailor several of these products. The violet-colored-NM7O is shown to be a very stable and reactive chemical that has the ability to neutralize strong Lewis bases, e.g., surrogate chemical warfare agents, odors, drug delivery compounds, and biocidal properties. Also, the violet-colored NM7O changing to brown-colored Mn(IV) oxide will serve a sensor to monitor the reaction.
