Nonwoven protective garments possess a poor thermo-physiological wearing comfort due to theirrninsufficient breathability. The problem can be solved by applying phase change material (PCM)rnto the nonwoven fabrics system the garment consists of. PCM is a highly-productive thermalrnstorage medium which can be used, for instance, to absorb excessive heat released by the humanrnbody under strenuous activities. The heat absorption by the PCM results in a delay in thernmicroclimate temperature increase and, hence, a substantial decrease of the skin’s moisturernrelease. Both lead to an overall enhancement of the thermo-physiological wearing comfort and arnprevention of heat stress situations as a serious health risk. Furthermore, the wearing times of thernnonwoven protective garments can be extended resulting in an increased productivity.rnThe thermal effects of the PCM application in nonwoven protective garments are explained, thernmaterial design is described and the results are discussed.
